My Epic Lake Superior Circle Tour

We started from Sault Ste. Marie, ON going clockwise around the lake. First overnight in Marquette, MI. We stopped along the way and lunched in Munising at the Dog Patch. From Marquette traveled to Ashland, WI stopping and meeting many interesting people in little towns and taking in the wilderness. Great riding roads! From Ashland headed off to Bayfield and Red Cliff through Duluth and overnighted in Silver Bay, MN. More

Amazing Views of the Big Lake!

I left work early on a Thursday afternoon in Marquette and drove west to Duluth. The focus of my trip was Lake Superior’s North Shore, so the goal that first day was just to get to Duluth. On Friday, I did a little sightseeing in Duluth, including a trip to the Thompson Hill welcome center. The views from there are great, so don’t forget a stop there. The remainder of More

Great Road Trip

I have been vacationing on Lake Superior’s south shore on Wisconsin’s North Coast for my entire life. I’ve visited the Minnesota Arrowhead and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula several times, but this was our first circle trip through Ontario from Thunder Bay to Sault Ste. Marie. We began and ended at Cornucopia, Wisconsin. The trip was simply fabulous. The Duluth/Superior Harbor, Lighthouses along the Minnesota shore, the Canadian Shield, the water falls More

Bucket List Trip

We left home in the Twin Cities on our 2018 Honda Goldwing doing the circle tour clockwise. Because we’ve been to Duluth many times, as well as Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls, etc. we didn’t stop at those places. We had a delicious lunch at The Rustic Inn in Castle Danger and continued on to Grand Marais, MN for the night. We don’t recommend staying at the Shoreline Motel, as More

Epic Lake Superior Motorcycle Trip

I describe it as endless beauty. More rugged beauty than the west coast. Terry Fox memorial in Thunder Bay should be championed more. What a great visit and I was surprised his story is not more well known. His campaign and monies raised for cancer research is incredible. Lots of Beaches, waterfalls and places to stretch legs. Apostle Islands kayaking is a must. Kendall’s fish smokehouse was a great find. More

The Beauty Was Unmatched

I completed the circle of Lake Superior this summer during the month of July 2014 as a solo trip at the age of 67. I completed the tour by bicycle and car. It was a colder and wetter experience than I expected but the beauty was unmatched by anything else I have been privileged to see. On the Canadian side, by far the most rugged and rural, the most beauty More

Really Enjoyed the Trip

My wife and I just completed the Circle Tour of Lake Superior. Almost 3,500 miles of driving from our home in Kansas City to Duluth, Minnesota, where we began the tour. We really enjoyed the trip immensely and here are some highlights: We visited the Fairlawn and Glensheen homes in Duluth as well as tried out some local food from Clyde’s and Pickwick. We traveled the North Shore, stopping at More

The Most Impressive Thing

Terry & I finished doing the Circle Tour with our truck pulling a Pop-Up Camper Trailer. September 25, 2012 – We began our trip from our home in Ham Lake, Minnesota, with our first stop (N/N) being Porcupine State Park. This is a beautiful Park and we had an excellent campsite. September 26 – Then on to the Keweenaw Peninsula which proved to be very interesting. We overnighted at F.J. More

One of My Favorite Vacations

In October of 1999, a friend from Chicago and I took one of my favorite vacations ever – we drove around Lake Superior! We left the night of September 30th from Minneapolis in my brand new Chevy Silverado truck that had less than 200 miles on it. We drove all night straight to Thunder Bay, Ontario, with a short stop in Duluth at Canal Park to ‘officially’ kick off our More
