A Superior 40th Anniversary

We have spent 40 years vacationing on Michigan’s Lake Superior shore and thought it was time to see the rest of the Lake. We had a high top Ford Transit van outfitted for camping and on September 1st headed out for the Keweenaw Peninsula. We spent three days rediscovering Copper Harbor and then headed for Madeline Island. Camped two nights on the island, explored Bayfield then headed for Minnesota. We More

September 2018 Circle Tour

We started September 7th in Duluth and circled counter clockwise. We had been to Bayfield and Ashland before, so we decided to skip them this time and head directly into Michigan. Highlights in Michigan: Cold Iron Brewery in Ironwood. Of the breweries we stopped at during our tour, these guys were the best. Also, we recommend eating at Don & GG’s, which offers both vegetarian and vegan options; hiking the More

Lake Superior Circle Tour – Bucket List, check!

We traveled clockwise around the Big Lake; starting in Ironwood, MI at Little Girls Point. The lake water here was extremely dark red mud stained due to recent heavy rains and there was no swimming because of e-coli concerns. Our first night was spent in Bayfield, WI which was beautiful as always. We passed through Duluth/Superior without stopping if an effort to experience Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse (time More

Trip Complete!

Some of our favorite spots: Pictured Rocks, The Fishbasket in Munising, MI, Laurium Manor Inn in Laurium, MI. We loved the Soo Locks as well as the Lockview Restaurant there. In Wawa, ON, the Kinniwabi Pines Restaurant was great! In Lake Superior Provincial Park, the Agawa Pictographs were well worth the rugged hike. Also a great hike in Pukaskwa National Park. We had an excellent stay at the Quebec Inn More

A Wonderful Trip!

We did the Lake Superior Circle Tour from July 3-12, 2015. What an awesome trip! It is so hard to pick favorites. Loved the view of Split Rock Lighthouse from afar. Watching climbers at Palisades Cliffs. Grand Marais was a cute little town (great meal at The Angry Trout). We saw a bear on the Gunflint Trail. High Falls and Kakabeka Falls were just the beginning of many beautiful falls. More

A Beautiful, Scenic Ride Around Lake Superior

We left from Ishpeming and traveled east to the Canadian border, taking our time to take in all of the beautiful scenery. We stopped at the Lake Superior Provincial Park and hiked down to the Indian Pictographs. This is a piece of history that is slowly disappearing. We visited many many waterfalls and made our way to Wawa and then westward towards Thunder Bay. After that the trip south along More

Spectacular

The whole Circle Tour was spectacular! Some favorites were: South – Amnicon Falls and Pattison State Park. Ashland, Wisconsin – Second Street Bistro was fabulous. Fresh heirloom tomatoes and veggies. Cascade Trail, Grand Marais, Minnesota – Best Western Superior Inn and The Angry Trout. What a great More

So Much Fun

When did you complete the Circle Tour? July 29, 2012. What were your favorite spots and experiences on the Circle Tour? Lake Superior Provincial Park (Agawa Rock) and the Soo Locks. Which way is the best way to travel the Circle Route -Clockwise or Counterclockwise? We did it clockwise, but due to a two-hour wait at the Sault Ste. Marie border, I would suggest going counterclockwise. Which part of the More

Breathtaking

Hello there. My husband and I just did the tour last week on motorcycles. The scenery was breathtaking! We both loved the Minnesota side the best. Because we were on motorcycles, we didn’t get a chance to enjoy the parks, but we did camp in one near Silver Bay. The sites were spacious and there were decent facilities. The waterfalls along the highway were stunning! We stayed at the McKenzie More
