A Superior 40th Anniversary

We have spent 40 years vacationing on Michigan’s Lake Superior shore and thought it was time to see the rest of the Lake. We had a high top Ford Transit van outfitted for camping and on September 1st headed out for the Keweenaw Peninsula. We spent three days rediscovering Copper Harbor and then headed for Madeline Island. Camped two nights on the island, explored Bayfield then headed for Minnesota. We More

Completing the Tour, Canadian Side

When contemplating where to go for fall color viewing, Lake Superior came to mind. We decided on an excursion to the Canadian side, the only part of the Big Lake we had not seen on previous travels. Using the Lake Superior Travel Guide along with other sources, we planned a seven-day trip for the last week of September. We started from Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and drove counter clockwise through More

34 Days by Bicycle

Best experience: We rode into Grand Marais, MI on the GM Truck Trail, and worked lots of sand into our chains and gears. It was raining and we were pretty miserable. Everyone had been warning us that a storm was coming with gale-force winds, so we asked about a place to stay. The guy at the gas station answered our question about the campground, but then pointed out Superior Hotel More

Can’t wait to go back!

I’m lucky enough to live on the Keweenaw Peninsula, so started here and went clockwise. Tried to hit most of the renowned rock picking beaches and though the lake was rough most days, found a good bunch of agates at the roadside beaches on the MN north shore and near Grand Marais, MI. Most amazing to me was Split Rock Lighthouse (MN) and the restored keeper’s home, the views from More

Circle Tour: Bucket List Must!

We traveled from Big Lake, Minnesota to Bayfield, WI on our first day. The fall colors were just starting and we were able to take in the quaint town of Bayfield including an enjoyable excursion via the ferry to Madeline Island. Innkeeper Jack, was very knowledgeable and gracious at the Pilot House B&B. Big Bay, Michigan was our next stop. We couldn’t resist the opportunity to stay in a working More

12 Days of The Circle

We used the Lake Superior Travel Guide and The Ultimate Guide to the Region and we were very pleased, especially the mile-by-mile aspect. We saw lighthouses, waterfalls, Fort William, loved the Amethyst Mine in Thunder Bay and the Soo Locks Campground was excellent. Richard & Gayle Dull & Ellie dog, New Castle CO

A September Jaunt Exceeds Expectations…

Growing up in Wisconsin, we were familiar with much of the Wisconsin and Minnesota portions of the Lake, so we decided to start in the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan and go counter-clockwise and chart new territory. Highlights included Presque Isle State Campground, Lake of the Clouds, Ore Dock Brewery in Marquette, Several Falls in Munising, Pictured Rocks Kayaking Tour, Log Slide Overlook in Grand Marais, Michigan,  Lake Superior Brewing Co, More
