Lake Superior Circle Tour

We started our tour in Duluth, MN on September 10, 2019, after spending the evening at the Fitger’s Inn and dinner at the Pickwick Restaurant. We traveled along North Shore Drive (US61) visiting Split Rock Lighthouse and Grand Portage. We spent the night in Thunder Bay, ON. While there we visited Fort William and Kakabeka Falls, and then traveled to Wawa, ON. In Wawa, we visited the large goose statue More

September Circle – Anti-Clockwise!!

We live in Northern Wisconsin and spend a fair amount of time on the Big Lake west of Ontonagon and we decided on a spur of the moment to circumnavigate Superior! We have friends in Ely, MN that we’ve been trying to see, so decided to get over there by going around the lake counter-clockwise and they met us in Duluth. Everything other than the south shore was “new country” More

Lighthouses, Waterfalls and Lakeside Vistas

We started our tour in Duluth and traveled clockwise around the lake. Although rainy through most of our journey, the scenery was beautiful. We cycled the paved trail from Gooseberry Falls to Silver Bay, MN (about 37 miles round trip). The trail was wonderful. We camped in our “Little Guy” teardrop camper and the campgrounds were plentiful with wonderful sites. (If you use an electric hookup, bring an extension for More

Circle tour by motorhome

We started the circle tour at Sault Ste. Marie after traveling up from Pennsylvania. Traveling counterclockwise, we stayed at provincial parks and municipal campgrounds for most of the trip. We found the route to be RV friendly, with good roads and plenty of parking and pull-offs. Contrasting with our familiar Lake Erie shoreline, we were delightfully surprised by the number of islands and the beautiful uncrowded rocky shores. Highlights for More

The Superior Circle Tour by bike

My group of 11 riders with one SAG driver spent 21 days and nights on the Circle Tour, riding clockwise from Duluth around the lake.  A wonderful trip, it IS possible to do it by bike and stay in hotels, eat at restaurants rather than camp and cook. We had a great time. A.D. Carson, Glendale, WI
