We traveled from Big Lake, Minnesota to Bayfield, WI on our first day. The fall colors were just starting and we were able to take in the quaint town of Bayfield including an enjoyable excursion via the ferry to Madeline Island. Innkeeper Jack, was very knowledgeable and gracious at the Pilot House B&B. Big Bay, Michigan was our next stop. We couldn’t resist the opportunity to stay in a working lighthouse, and Nick and his team at Big Bay Lighthouse made our visit memorable. Off to Whitefish Point the next day to see the Shipwreck Museum and pay our respects to those lost on the Big Lake. Our next point of interest was Sault Ste. Marie. The locks were an engineering marvel. Off into Ontario the next morning, stunning scenery around every turn. Colors were peaking in some areas so we couldn’t have timed it better. Made it through to Thunder Bay with a stop at Old Fort William for some history immersion. Tofte, Minnesota was our next stop. We were thrilled to see some amazing fall leaves at Lutsen on a gondola ride. Our last night was in Two Harbors that included our annual visit to Betty’s pies, agate hunting, shoreline bonfires at Larsmont Cottages and taking in an art exhibit. All in all, we were grateful to be able to spend seven amazing days together meeting friendly folks and experiencing the many aspects of our favorite lake.
