I’m lucky enough to live on the Keweenaw Peninsula, so started here and went clockwise. Tried to hit most of the renowned rock picking beaches and though the lake was rough most days, found a good bunch of agates at the roadside beaches on the MN north shore and near Grand Marais, MI. Most amazing to me was Split Rock Lighthouse (MN) and the restored keeper’s home, the views from the cliff side trails at Tettegouche State Park (MN), Pebble Beach (more like Boulder Beach) in Marathon, Ontario, and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (MI). I had done the boat tour to see the colorful sheer cliffs there before but wasn’t aware of everything else it offers, like the Sable Falls and Dunes and the amazing Log Slide. I was gone eight days and there’s still so much I want see or do and see again, so I’m hoping to make this a biennial thing.
