We have a place in the forest near Mellen, WI, so we started at the Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center in Ashland, WI. It’s such an interesting place. So much information! We drove clockwise to Duluth, and on to Lutsen, MN. Stayed at the Eagle Ridge Resort. Great place, rode the gondola, and the chair lift. Hiked and rode the Alpine Slide. Not bad for “old people”!! Stayed 2 nights, had lunch in Grand Marais at the Crooked Spoon, very good. Crossed over to Canada and went to Thunder Bay. We went to Fort William the next day, and really enjoyed learning about the Fur Trade and the lives of the Ojibwe. Also saw the Botanical Conservatory. Very nice with tags for all the plants. We drove a long way to Wawa, ON, stopping at Nipigon’s new outlook. Beautiful views from the tower. We stayed at Northern Lights Motel and Chalet. Mo & John were great hosts, they had wonderful info about the area. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed it. Hiked and drove to the Lake Superior Provincial Park. Very beautiful. Difficult hikes. Had a great drive and lunch at Kinniwabi Pines. The lady there was very nice. Some girls went swimming in lake Wawa. Said it was cold. Ha. I’ll Bet!! At Sault Ste. Marie we road the Agawa Train. Met a couple from Eau Claire, WI and talked and visited the whole way. Great day!! The Canyon was awesome and the falls beautiful. Also saw the Canadian Locks. Very interesting. Emergency Swing dam was especially interesting. Walked around the islands there. Stayed 3 nights and went to Northern part of the UP. Beautiful drives from Houghton, to Copper Harbor. Watched the last quarter of the Vikings and Packers in Eagle River at the Inn. Excellent food. Saw an old mining town, the historical society of Michigan is working on. Very nice!! By this time we have been on the road for 10 days and were anxious to get home. Enjoyed the tour very much. So much to see and do. Glad to be at the Cabin. We had great weather, and a great time.
