We traveled north from Sault Ste Marie. Wawa was the first night through beautiful country, but we will not return to Wawa motor inn. Nice water fall south of town. Magpie Falls. Great scenery thru Marathon. Good basic breakfasts at A&W. Sunset in Marathon very nice over the lake. Marathon Harbor Inn, new section nice. White River gorge falls worth the stop. Watch for “Rock Little Men” as the Moose signs abound. We saw no Moose. Sleeping giant in Thunder Bay, plus nice water front. Two Harbors, lucky to watch Ore Boat loading at the docks. Duluth is a pretty hillside view place, plus a unique waterfront, with Big ships coming thru the bridge. Circle tour H.Q. on Superior St, next to Duluth Trading is a good stop. In Hurley Wisconsin, Bell’s has very good pizza. Porcupine Mountains were beginning to show fall colors. Houghton, ship canal, worth a few days to go up to Copper Harbor, lot to see. Mountain Lodge in Copper Harbor, then up the Brockway Drive. Use U.S.41 and M-28 if possible. History is all around In Calumet, Houghton, Hancock, Lake Linden, Eagle Harbor & River, Mining in 1900’s. Mines, Quincy Hoist. A Big cinnamon bun awaits in L’Anse, at Hilltop Diner. Marquette, Presque Isle Park Drive, lake front. Munising, Pictured Rock boat tour, then drive to Grand Marais. Tahquamenon Falls,then White Fish Bay at Pardise. Back to Sault Ste Marie. Ship watching at Soo Locks. Lock View motel is in the right spot. Wonderful trip, 3 extra day s in the Copper Country.
