I, along with my husband Kurt and two of our friends, rode the Circle Tour on Honda Gold Wing motorcycles. It was a lot of fun, as well as educational!
Favorite spots include Whitefish Point, Michigan, which has a still-functioning lighthouse. It is close to the site where the Edmund Fitzgerald went down in a storm on November 10, 1975, with none of the crew surviving. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is there, housing the actual ship’s bell recovered from the Fitz. In fact, we stayed in the Crews’ Quarters there on site, which was a very memorable experience.
Another one of my favorite spots was one of the places we stayed along the way – The Northern Rail Traincar Inn at Two Harbors, MN. It is a unique place to stay, consisting of actual train boxcars which have been fitted out as comfortable hotel rooms but retaining the original boxcar outsides.
