We found out that we were about a month early for being on 2 wheels! Overall, the weather was very cool and rainy almost every day. We did have a few days of nicer weather, but it never got above about 55 degrees most days. Even with all of that, we did have a wonderful trip. We decided to officially start our trip in Duluth, MN. We stopped at Two Harbors and the scenic overlook near Split Rock Lighthouse. Visited Grand Marais and ate at the Crooked Spoon, some of the best soup we’ve ever had. Then stopped at Pigeon Falls, it was beautiful. Crossed into Canada then rolled into Thunder Bay. We pent the night in Thunder Bay at the Best Western Nor’wester, lovely hotel. Stopped at the Harley dealership on our way out of town the next day. Then we got on the TransCanada Highway and proceeded to Nipigon. Dinner recommendation: The Edgeview Inn, awesome food. Kent had fish and I had a lamb burger, both were so yummy! Spent the night in Nipigon and headed out the next morning for Wawa. We stopped in Terrace Bay for fuel and to go to the visitor center. It was a good stop. Our next stop was Aguasabon Falls, they were lovely and well worth the walk down to them from the parking area. After that we stopped in White River, the Visitor Center was closed but we did get to read all about Winnie the Pooh and take pictures with the giant statue. Got to Wawa without much trouble although there was quite a bit of road work just before we got to our hotel. Visited the Goose. Spent the night in Wawa (Wawa Motor Inn) and hit the road again in the morning. Missed the two falls closest to Wawa, this was the worst day of weather, stopped at Old Woman Bay. This was a lovely bay and the beach was nice, but we didn’t swim — just walked around a bit! Ran into a man from Ohio who was also visiting the bay. Stopped at Pancake Bay for fuel and souvenirs. We basically raced the rain into Sault Ste. Marie, found our hotel and hunkered down for the night. Got an early start the next morning, and crossed back into the USA. Stopped at Point Iroquois Lighthouse, it was a lovely stop. We then proceeded to Paradise and stopped at Tahquamenon Falls, one of my favorite stops! Very much worth the effort to visit both the upper and lower falls. Proceeded on to Grand Marais, MI and a stop a beautiful beach. Went on to Marquette and spent the night there. Have visited before and love this area. Stopped at the Harley dealership then headed on toward Copper Harbor. Spent the night in Copper Harbor, very much enjoyed the scenery and this village. The entire peninsula was beautiful and we spent two days there visiting local shops and sampling the local cuisine. Had our first Pasty, and it was very tasty! Lots of evidence of the copper mining history of the area. Eagle Harbor had a great lighthouse and view of the lake. From the Keweenaw Peninsula we rode for Bayfield, WI stopping in Ashland. We stayed for a couple of days in Bayfield as it is one of our favorite towns and areas. We recommend The Bayfield Inn. We took a sailboat ride and completely enjoyed it. Once we left Bayfield we headed back to Duluth/Superior to finish our Circle. We ate at Gronk’s for our last lunch on the Circle. From there we headed back home managing to ride part of the Great River Road before heading west into Iowa.
