We are very happy to inform you that we have completed the total Circle Tour this July/August. The trip began from our home in Bayfield, Wisconsin, on July 28, 2014 and ended there on Aug. 11, 2014. During the 14 days, we drove 1,673 miles and saw one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen in all of our world travels. What made it so special was that not only did we see magnificent scenery but we were able to feel it as we drove the 1,673 miles on our Can Am RTS motorcycle, a truly great way to experience the “Inland Sea.”
We did a lot of research last winter and decided to travel clockwise which proved to be the best way for us. Our evenings were spent in Grand Marais, MN, Thunder Bay, ON (2 nights), Rossport, ON, White River, ON, Wawa, ON, Batchawana Bay, ON (2 nights), Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Whitefish Point, MI, Munising, MI, Copper Harbor, MI, and Silver City, MI.
In terms of lodging, the standouts were the McVicar Manor in Thunder Bay and the Crew Quarters at the Whitefish Point Lighthouse, MI. Actually, all but one of the accommodations were very good and great places to relax after a day of riding. With Lake Superior as a backdrop and a glass of wine in hand, we loved to relive the experiences of the day. Betty’s Pies on the North Shore of MN was our best culinary experience.
Each day was special and it’s hard to list all the sites which we took in. However, as a scenic cruise captain during the summer here in Bayfield, the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, MI was especially poignant. Who can’t get emotional when viewing the Edmund Fitzgerald‘s bell. I’ve told its story on my cruises since then.
We thank everyone who provided us with maps, information and suggestions. Without your help, this would not have been the memorable experience it was. We will do it again.
