Our Lake Superior Tour

Hello, I recently purchased a subscription of Lake Superior Magazine as a Christmas gift for my wife. She received her first issue including the 2013 Travel Guide and really enjoys her gift! In reading this issue I noticed a section on joining the Lake Superior Circle Tour Club if one has made the trip. Here is the detail on our Lake Superior tour that we took with our two children in 1991 from Eagle Harbor, Michigan, finishing our trip on July 21, 1991.

Started at Eagle Harbor and first night spent in Duluth. Second night spent at the Solbakken or Lutsen Resort in Lutsen – just don’t remember which one. Third night spent at the Victoria Inn in Thunder Bay where the kids spent much time in the swimming pool and in the pool waterslide! Beautiful drive between Nipigon and Marathon! Somewhere along that route we found an abandoned mine and we were able to explore all the rock outcroppings.

Finally, 2 nights in Sault Ste. Marie. We took the kids on the Agawa Canyon Train Tour which was really wonderful. Kids were ages 10 and 13 and never before been on a train trip. After leaving the Soo, we visited the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, which was very educational and also provided some more detail on the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Returned to Eagle Harbor, which in the first place is hard to leave! The Eagle Harbor Lighthouse is a landmark! Also, the Eagle Harbor Inn, then owned by Dick & Mary Probst, is the best restaurant (in our opinion) in the Keweenaw Peninsula.

We would love to be members of the Lake Superior Circle Tour Club!
