Four of us did the Lake Superior Circle Tour in October 2012 and it was phenomenal. We started out on October 16 from Minneapolis and stayed in Duluth, Minnesota, the first night – then Thunder Bay, circling back to Minneapolis, back home October 21.
Our favorite spot was staying in Wawa at the Rock Island Lodge. The Lodge only had 4 rooms. We were the only people staying there. The lodge was right down on the beautiful rocks – right down to the beautiful Lake Superior – and the sunset and sunrise were breathtaking. When we arrived, there was just a note from the owners with the keys. We made ourselves at home and enjoyed the beautiful sunset that was settling upon us, taking pictures as the sunset. The next morning, we woke up early and took pictures as the sun was rising. Words cannot explain the beauty that surrounded us both from the evening before and then the next morning. The owners had arrived then and prepared a wonderful big breakfast. If I didn’t pinch myself, I would have sworn I had died and gone to heaven. There are no colors that can really define the colors we saw with both the sunset and the sunrise.
Even though the Circle Tour was done very fast, as we only had a few days to do this, it has become one of my favorite vacations of all time. I would love to do it again, but when we have more time and more things are open as we had to go during MEA in October. We’re happy to join the Lake Superior Circle Tour Club.
