My husband and I made the Circle September 8-19, 2012. We started in Duluth, Minnesota. We went north to Grand Marais, into Canada and Thunder Bay. We only had hotel reservations for the first two nights, after that we just stopped wherever was interesting. We did stay couple nights in a few places. We lucked out with absolutely beautiful, perfect weather! We were a little early for peak foliage, although color was still beautiful. We were impressed with the friendliness of everyone, everywhere. And the roads in Canada were wonderful, smooth, wide, windy and hilly… fun to drive.
It is hard to pick our favorite place, but we enjoyed Pebble Beach at Marathon, Pictured Rocks at Munising and Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish, also the Maritime Museum at Marquette, Michigan.
I know the round trip is about 1,300 miles; we put on 2,200 miles, checking out lots of side roads and beaches. And we took more than 2,000 photos. There is so much to see and do, the more time you have the better. Five to six days would not be enough time! I could go on and on about how much we thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip. We will definitely make the trip again!
