We were married on August 7, 1965, and traveled clockwise through Duluth, to the Sault and along the South Shore. At that time, most of the highway was single lane, and some of the road was gravel. Motels were not plentiful. Highlights were what is now Thunder Bay, Wawa and just the vastness of the lake. We loved the view from the old trail to Shovel Point. Now, we, our kids and grand kids try to visit that area each year or more often. We thrive in Duluth and on the North Shore. Our plans include duplicating this trip for a few weeks in 2019.
