A Wonderful Trip!

We did the Lake Superior Circle Tour from July 3-12, 2015. What an awesome trip! It is so hard to pick favorites. Loved the view of Split Rock Lighthouse from afar. Watching climbers at Palisades Cliffs. Grand Marais was a cute little town (great meal at The Angry Trout). We saw a bear on the Gunflint Trail. High Falls and Kakabeka Falls were just the beginning of many beautiful falls. More

Certainly Will Go Again

We just got back four days ago from completing the tour on our motorcycle. What a beautiful trip! Our favorite spots had to be all of the waterfalls we saw. We even got to see a mother bear with two cubs and got pictures, it was amazing. Learned about the birthplace of Winnie the Pooh, never knew. We did a lot of exploring trails and scenic turnoffs. Met a lot More

With Two Extra Side Trips

I completed the Circle Tour of Lake Superior between Sept. 28, 2013 (when I left Stratford, ON where I live now) and Oct. 20. The trip included two extra side trips: a rail trip from Sault Ste. Marie, ON to Hearst, ON through the Agawa Canyon and a foray into Winnipeg, MB. The strictly Lake Superior Circle Tour from Sault Ste. Marie, ON to Sault Ste. Marie, MI was from More

An Excellent Trip

My husband and I completed the Circle Tour September 7-14, 2013. We started from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan (where we live), and went clockwise around the Lake. (Several years ago we started from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and went counterclockwise as far as Terrace Bay, Ontario, but didn’t have time to go all the way.) The trip this month was a fulfillment of a years-long desire. We started off in More

Rich Beyond Our Expectations

My husband and I circumnavigated Lake Superior by car from July 15-27, 2013 – an extraordinary trip. We stayed in motels in Duluth, Thunder Bay, Marathon, Batchawana Bay (2 nights), Sault Ste. Marie, MI (2 nights), Marquette, Copper Harbor (3 nights), and Ironwood. Our invaluable guides were your Lake Superior Travel Guide magazine, Hunt’s Guide to the U.P., Around the Shores of Lake Superior by Margaret Bogue and the 1940 More

We Did It!

Dear Circle Tour Club: WE DID IT! My girlfriend and I finally did the Lake Superior Circle Tour! On June 12, we left Dayton and returned on June 20. We started the tour at Sault Ste. Marie, watching 2 freighters in the locks – one going east and one going west. We then crossed the International Bridge and stopped at the Visitor’s Center to exchange money (and to get a More

Visiting Winnie-the-Pooh

My daughter and I drove the Circle Tour April 4-8, 2013. Our object was to visit Winnie-the-Pooh in White River, Ontario. Even though the museum wasn’t open until May, Debby opened the museum for us. We enjoyed our visit with her and talking about Winnie. And, of course, we have numerous pictures of the Winnie statue with ourselves and also with one of the stuffed Winnies I had made and More

Never-Ending Ooohs and Aaahs

My sister, Alice Hudson (78), and I (79) left Washburn, Wisconsin, on Tuesday September 18 going west around Lake Superior. We had both done portions of the tour as children, as well as the entire tour with our husbands (they were brothers!), but that was YEARS ago. So it was with a great deal of amazement we discovered the many improvements all along the way. The roads are fabulous, as More

I Was Not Disappointed

Here is a synopsis of my entire trip. I rode my Lake Superior Circle Tour on my bike (really a Harley-Davidson with an aftermarket trike kit) this past July (2012). I did the tour solo and rode it clockwise. I had been planning this trip for several months. Each year since retirement I take an extended ride during the summer. Being originally from Michigan, I had spent a lot of More
