Our Circle Tour

My husband Chris and I did the Circle Tour the first week in October 2016. Nine days and eight nights. We started in Sault, MI, where we live and traveled west. Temps were in the 60s for perfect hiking and outdoor adventures. Things that impressed us: the murals on the buildings in Ashland, WI; the waterfront in Duluth and the size of the massive harbor where 1,000′ freighters could “get More

Just Finished the Lake Superior Circle Tour

Hi, we have just finished our Lake Superior Circle Tour! We started from Sault Ste. Marie and finished there. We started on Sept. 17 and ended Sept. 24. We did it as a couple, driving our SUV and using local motels to stay. We hiked a few parks as we are avid hikers. That was a very intense drive but truly worth it! Lake Superior is majestic and a bit More

Loved It All

Started the trip Sept. 10 and ended the trip Sept.19. Spent nine days driving around the lake. We drove a little over 1,600 miles with the side trips. Loved it all. It was like three different scenic areas. The first one was the Minnesota north shore. Been there several times in the past, but never been past Grand Marais before. The second area was past Thunder Bay. It was just a More

My Second Circle Tour

I completed my second Circle Tour of Lake Superior in July of 2015. First time I completed it was in June of 1980. My favorites stops along the way. Duluth MN North Shore — Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Lighthouse Thunder Bay — Sleeping Giant Provincial Park Tahquamenon Falls, MI Whitefish Bay/Great Lake Shipwreck Museum Bayfield/Gruenke’s Inn (especially their whitefish livers – yum!) Gerry Ford, Minneapolis, MN

Favorite Memory

I have traveled the Canadian & U.S. shores of Lake Superior for over 60 years. The north shore above Duluth, MN has always been a favorite memory for me. I look forward to displaying my Circle Tour Club sticker on my next trip around the lake which will also include Lake Huron. Rick Wold, Lakeland, FL

The Beauty Was Unmatched

I completed the circle of Lake Superior this summer during the month of July 2014 as a solo trip at the age of 67. I completed the tour by bicycle and car. It was a colder and wetter experience than I expected but the beauty was unmatched by anything else I have been privileged to see. On the Canadian side, by far the most rugged and rural, the most beauty More

Camped Most of the Way

We recently completed the Circle Tour for the second time! We were gone for 9 days, 8 nights and camped most of the way around the lake. Our trip was June 28-July 6, 2014, and we went clockwise around the lake starting and ending in Canal Park. Our favorite campground was Neys Provincial Park. We love the UP but Duluth and Minnesota’s North Shore will always be our favorite destination around More

So Much to Explore

We finished June 28 with the International Bridge Walk at the twin Saults and the Engineers day at the Soo Locks. Favorite places include Lake of the Clouds, Whitefish Point, Pictured Rocks, Apostle Islands, Minnesota’s north shore, amethyst mines, Kakabeka Falls and Gooseberry Falls. So much to explore, so little time! Our not-so-favorite was the major detour (4 hours) caused by one bridge being washed out! Ann & Paul Heilborn, More
