Advice for Travelers

We, a couple and a sister, traveled from July 14-28, 2015, in a 16-ft. Scamp trailer. The weather was great and we camped every night. Never made reservations ahead and always found a nice campsite, many sites directly on Lake Superior. Never used an electrical site. Camped in WI Municipal, MN State and National Forest, Ontario Provincial, MI National Forest, and State Forest campgrounds. Our favorite camping area was in More

We Loved All of It

We have just completed our first circle tour of Lake Superior. It has been in two parts. Summer 2012: we traveled in Michigan from Sault Ste. Marie to Copper Harbor, over a period of about 8 days. We (wife, Karen, and our 90# flat-coat retriever named Jake) were camping along the way except in Copper Harbor, when we stayed in the King Copper Motel. We loved all of it … More

An Absolutely Wonderful Time

1. Our Trip included an overnight at Grand Marais, Michigan, staying at the North Shore Lodge and we rode the just recently completed route H58, which they are calling the Tail of the Dragon of the North. Was very beautiful seeing many sand cranes along the way. 2. We traveled this route to our next stop of Houghton, Michigan. On the way to Houghton we stopped at Miners Castle, a More

Our Favorite Lake

We left on Saturday, July 14th, and completed the Circle Tour on Saturday, July 21st. We went clockwise around Lake Superior, starting in Duluth and going to Canada first. Our favorite places were Old Woman Bay in Lake Superior Provincial Park, Twelvemile Beach near Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Grand Marais in Michigan. The camping in Ontario was awesome! A lot of space between campsites and a lot of privacy. More

Fond Memories

We are preparing to make our third Circle Tour of Lake Superior this summer. Our first Circle Tour was our honeymoon in July 1991. We got out the scrapbook and repeated the trip for our 10th anniversary in 2001. We decided to do it again this year for our 20th anniversary. Our first trip was unplanned (after our reservations got fouled up elsewhere). It began with a simple picnic trip More

Our Circle Tour

Monday, July 11-Tuesday, July 18, 2011. Our Lake Superior Circle Tour began with a very strategic stop at the Lake Superior Magazine (LSM) office (310 E. Superior Street, Duluth, Minnesota) where we spoke to the helpful staff and purchased Lake Superior, the Ultimate Guide to the Region published by LSM. This book was a helpful addition to all of the maps and tour books we received from AAA (Automobile Club More
