My husband and I completed the 1,300-mile circle tour in September this year. We both agree it was one of our favorite vacations ever. We took nine days but feel we could have have taken two weeks to have more time to enjoy some of the attractions.
We started in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, spending our first night at the Best Northern Motel in Wawa with dinner at the Kinniwabi Pines restaurant, unique and delicious! Using my iPhone or iPad we made reservations each day for lodging that night. We tried to stay mostly in small mom-and-pop motels instead of big chains. Many of them offered free breakfast or at least Continental breakfast. We took along a cooler of food to have picnic lunches along the way and spend the time outdoors. Then we’d enjoy a nice dinner each evening at a local restaurant.
The highlights of our trip were hiking to beautiful waterfalls including Kakabeka Falls west of Thunder Bay, Rainbow Falls near Schreiber and Aguasabon Falls in Terrace Bay. Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park was breathtaking! Another highlight was Amethyst mining in Thunder Bay. We came home with a large pail full. There are just too many wonderful attractions to see on the Circle Tour and my only regret is that we didn’t take two full weeks. I would recommend this trip to anyone who has the time to explore!
