Advice for Travelers

We, a couple and a sister, traveled from July 14-28, 2015, in a 16-ft. Scamp trailer.

The weather was great and we camped every night. Never made reservations ahead and always found a nice campsite, many sites directly on Lake Superior. Never used an electrical site. Camped in WI Municipal, MN State and National Forest, Ontario Provincial, MI National Forest, and State Forest campgrounds. Our favorite camping area was in the Michigan U.P.

Best memorable experiences were “running” into a large black bear on the trailhead in Neys Provincial Park (he was more scared than we were), and going to an advertised event for a folk singer (Kitty Donohoe) who actually performed at a house party in Grand Marais, MI.

Advice for travelers: Always stop for pie, bakery or smoked fish. Talk to, ask questions, and learn from the locals (especially the small town museums). Be flexible. Take two weeks.
