We arrived in Duluth on June 21 and returned on July 5 after going clockwise around the lake.
My dad had been on several mine tours before but thought the Soudan Underground Mine’s was the best he had seen. He was also impressed with Quincy’s.
We had beautiful weather so we were really able to enjoy the shore views and waterfalls. I really enjoyed discovering the various views of Split Rock Lighthouse. Gooseberry Falls was impressive but I also enjoyed Caribou Falls and thought it was well worth the hike back to it.
The trip from Grand Portage to Isle Royale National Park and back was definitely a highlight.
I was also impressed with the Ontario Provincial Parks. We visited Kakabeka, Sleeping Giant, Ouimet Canyon, Rainbow Falls, Neys, White Lake, Lake Superior, and Pancake Bay.
We both immensely enjoyed the evening cruises we took at Pictured Rocks and Apostle Islands. The lake was calm so we were able to go much closer to the shore than we expected and the sights were beautiful.
Another highlight for us was the ranger-led auto tour of Seney National Wildlife Refuge. It was wonderful and I don’t think it gets enough publicity.
Also, the sunset cruise to the Copper Harbor Lighthouse was much better than I expected. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
