Favorite spots and experiences: We spent almost 5 weeks traveling around Lake Superior in our little motorhome with our Springer spaniel, Polly. We’re hooked! Lake Superior really gets to you.
Marc’s favorite spot was Pukaskwa National Park on the east side of the lake. The hiking there was spectacular, with views of the lake that reminded him of his home state of Maine. I liked Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, for its variety and beauty. Other highlights were the day we spent reliving the fur trade era at Fort William Historic Park in Thunder Bay; lunch at Naniboujou Lodge north of Grand Marais, Minnesota; the Leif Erikson Rose Garden in Duluth; the sunset cruise past the Pictured Rocks; hiking down the stairs to the shore to get “the shot” of Split Rock Lighthouse; as well as waterfalls and other lighthouses too numerous to list here. We camped mostly in state and provincial parks, but spent two memorable nights in Duluth camped right on the harbor at the marina.
I know this trip is one we’ll repeat and next time we’ll travel the other direction, just for fun. Door County, Wisconsin is our home. We’ll sport our Circle Tour decal in the back window of the RV with pride. Thanks. Your Travel Guide was on my lap the entire way around the lake. What a terrific resource!
