First Week of October

My husband and I just completed our clockwise circle of the Big Lake the first week of October. Living just a mile away from Lake Superior ourselves, we have always wondered about the other side of the lake. We were also surprised to find that many of our friends and neighbors had never been all the way around. Since we knew Michigan very well we focused on everywhere else and More

Fond Memories

We are preparing to make our third Circle Tour of Lake Superior this summer. Our first Circle Tour was our honeymoon in July 1991. We got out the scrapbook and repeated the trip for our 10th anniversary in 2001. We decided to do it again this year for our 20th anniversary. Our first trip was unplanned (after our reservations got fouled up elsewhere). It began with a simple picnic trip More

The Highlight of the Trip

Completed the Circle Lake Superior tour this fall with two friends. We left Minneapolis on September 27 and arrived back in Minneapolis on October 7. They then returned to Oklahoma and Texas. For the most part, we had gorgeous, warm weather and the leaves were beautiful. The highlight of the trip was the boat tour of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore out of Munising, Michigan. We took the sunset cruise and More

We Camped All the Way Around

We started our trip on the motorcycle going clockwise around Lake Superior, so the water would always be on our right side. We camped all the way around. The Circle Tour book was very handy to flag points of interest. We really enjoyed the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, Quincy Mine Tour and Split Rock Lighthouse. The ride around the Keweenaw Peninsula was especially lovely. The best by More

Fall of 2011

We always got to Duluth and then up the shore, but this time we went all around the lake. It was great except I had the flu most of the time, but it was still really good. My mom is from Palisades. We used the Lake Superior Travel Guide. We cut out pictures from the magazine and made a book. Darryl Vore, St. Claire Shore, Michigan

Many Highlights

August 19-September 4, 2011. My wife and I and our dog, Lacey, enjoyed a great trip going clockwise around Lake Superior. We camped at several campgrounds including Twin Lakes Sate Park in Michigan; Amnicon Falls, Wisconsin; Sleeping Giant, Neys and Agawa Bay in Ontario; and then back to Straits State Park in St. Ignace, Michigan. There are many highlights to the trip. Our favorite was sighting a bear that had More

There’s Magic in a Trip Like This

My son and I completed a circle all the way around Gitche Gumee on a 4-day motorcycle ride. The following little narration was written by me for my son and meant only for him, at that time. Others have now seen it and some have liked it. We have gone back to the Big Lake this past summer, also in August, and rode into a few of the southern shore More
